Das Buch ist okay, mehr aber auch nicht. Leider gelingt es Lisa Genova dieses Mal nicht, mich emotional auch nur ansatzweise zu erreichen. Die Gefühle von Sarah Nickerson, die nach einem Autounfall eine Gehirnverletzung hat, die verursacht, dass sie ihre linke Körperhälfte und alles, was links von ihr stattfindet nicht mehr wahrnimmt, werden wirklich einfach zu sehr beschrieben als dass man sie nachfühlen könnte. Hatte man bei "Still Alice" immer das Gefühl, mit Alice zu fühlen und zu verstehen, was in ihr vorgeht, so bleibt einem Sarah seltsam fremd. Auch die Geschichte um ihre Mutter bleibt seltsam distanziert. Ich habe immer mal wieder ein paar Seiten übersprungen, auf den Lisa Genova beispielisweise aufs kleinste beschreibt, wie sich Sarah eine Hose anzieht. Solche Beschreibungen gibt es en masse, das ist irgendwie nur mäßig spannend und irgendwann hat man dann eben begriffen, dass alles dreimal so lange dauert wie normalerweise. Die Geschichte hätte deutlich kürzer sein können, oftmals kam es mir so vor, als habe die Schriftstellerin das Buch künstlich in die Länge gezogen. Man hätte sich auch eine etwas spannendere Geschichte rund um Sarahs Familie überlegen können, die ist sehr vorhersehbar, und es passiert einfach nicht viel. Interessant war es für mich, diese Krankheit kennenzulernen, ich hatte noch nie davon gehört. Der Schreibstil von Lisa Genova gefällt mir auch nach wie vor. Das Englisch (für alle non-native speaker) ist einfach, es gibt auch keine medizinischen Fachbegriffe, die man nicht verstehen könnte. Wer "Still Alice" noch nicht kennt, sollte lieber das lesen, ist wirklich viel besser! Left neglected wird mir nicht lange in Erinnerung bleiben, leider!
I first read this book and read "Still Alice" and I must say "Left neglected" is worth reading but not as good as "Still Alice".I thought the plot was too easy, too boring, how at the end the whole family happily settles down in Vermont with two perfect new jobs.But Lisa Genova does a fantastic job in letting us experience what is like to live suddenly with a "handicap" and to struggle to accept and cope with the new changes. We can learn a lot from this part of the book since a life changing car accident can happen to us any time.
A wonderfully written novel. I enjoyed it very much. It was interesting to read about a familiar syndrome from another perspective. Looking forward to reading the other novels by Lisa Genova.

Es war das 3. Buch von Lisa Genova was ich gelesen habe und ich muss sagen, es war mit Abstand das am wenigsten mich berührende. Mit Ausnahme der Schilderungen des Neglect Syndroms fand ich den Inhalt seltsam oberflächlich, teilweise auch langweilig. Die ewig langen Abhandlungen über Kinder, Kinderunterbringung, Gestaltung der Abende vor dem Laptop und Fahrten zur Arbeit habe ich mir zum Teil gespart.Kein Vergleich zu 'Still Alice'. Mein absoluter Favorit ist und bleibt jedoch "Ein guter Tag zum Leben-Inside the O'Briens'.
Set in present-day Boston and Vermont, Left Neglected leads you into the world of a business woman who only perceives the right side of everything, including herself. I think it is quite challenging for an author to make the reader see through such a person’s eyes, but Ms. Genova succeeded. In my mind, I was constantly trying to look beyond that grayish area to see that left hand, or that ring, let alone that watch to read the time.Sarah, the main character of the book, is a business woman and as you can imagine, she is struggling hard to cope with her new situation. I never doubted this character for a second and understood her trains of thought, her fears and her decisions. There are other important characters in Left Neglected, but telling you about them would be a spoiler. They each have their own little story to tell.As I already knew that an accident was about to happen, I was rushing through the first couple of chapters to finally get there. I’m really impatient when it comes to things like that. So I perceived the beginning of Left Neglected as a little too slow. But from the accident onwards, I was spellbound and didn’t want to stop reading. I actually read the book within two days. I can fully recommend this gripping and moving story to anyone who needs a timeout, wants to broaden their horizon, or just wants to read a good book.
